
DO’S & DON’TS IN LAOS
Welcome to Laos! We wish you have wonderful time and enjoy your stay in Laos.
Please observe and read more about Do’s and Don’ts for culturally sensitive travel in Laos as following detail bellows:
1:The Lao word for greeting is Hello(Sabai Dee), usually said with smiling. Touching Or Showing affection in public will embarrass your hots.
2:Lao people traditionally greet each other by presenting their palm together to(NOP), although it is acceptable for man to shake hands.
3:In Laos your head is (High), your feet is (Low). Using your feet for any thing other the walking and play sport is generally considered rude.
4:Touching someone head is very impolite.
5:Lao people appreciate clean and neatly dress visitors.
6:Bathing nude in public is impolite.
7:Please remember to take your shoes off before you enter a Lao person’s home.
8:Remember, your head is (High), your feet is (Low). It is polite to gently crouch down when passing someone who is seated. Never, ever step over someone in your path.
9:Kissing and Hugging in public is impolite. Please be discrete.
10:Lao people speak softly and avoid confrontation. Please do not shout or raise your voice.
11:Before you take a photo of someone, please ask them first if it’s O’K
12:Please do not distribute gifts to children as it encourages begging, but give to an established organization or villages elders instead.
13:Try eating delicious Lao food whenever you can. It helps local business and Lao farmers.
14:Please show respect and dress neatly while you’re in temples and when taking photos.
15:There are many sacred items and site in Laos. Please do not touch or enter these places with out permission.
16:Monks are revered and respect in Laos, however women should not touch the monks or monk’s robes.
17:Please help to keep Laos clean and beautiful by not leaving litter. Picking up rubbish sets a good example for Laos youth.
18:The illegal sale of wildlife and wildlife products endangers many species native to Laos. Help to protect Lao wildlife by refusing to buy wildlife products.
19:Pleas help prevent forest fires.
20:Laos loses a little of its heritage every time antique is taken out of the country. Please do not buy antique such as Buddha Or other sacred items. Instead, support local craftsmen by purchasing new, quality handicrafts.
21:The using of drugs is illegal in Laos. The consequence must be severe for you and Lao society.
